Interconnect 2.0, the interconnection of the digital world through seamless routing between VOIP, NGN, IMS, VoIM and mobile networks, was introduced to South Africa at the recent Multisource conference on wireless and radio telecommunication.

Launching XConnect South Africa, a partnership between Multisource and XConnect, CEO of XConnect, Eli Katz said the world of communication, be it fixed, mobile or PC, is migrating to IP-based technology delivering new, multimedia services. “This technology change demands a fundamental new paradigm of federation-based, all-IP, scalable interconnect. We are confident that XConnect South Africa will create a new ability for users to communicate with any application or content service delivered to any device over any network”.

Heading XConnect South Africa, Christopher Geerdts, says the partnership between Multisource and XConnect is designed to offer service providers a competitive advantage in responding to opportunities arising from regulatory changes, economic growth and infrastructure improvements. “We are in a unique position to leverage off one of the most established telecommunications companies in South Africa. Multisource has extensive market knowledge and network capabilities which, coupled with XConnect’s expertise in providing Interconnect 2.0 services, will offer an unparalleled service to operators who need to set up multiple interconnects”.

Federation will give access to the full suite of Interconnect 2.0 services to network operators and service providers including fixed, mobile, and Web 2.0.The National Federation service supports next generation interconnection, allowing service providers to realise the true benefits of VoIP communication by exchanging national traffic across an in-country, policy-driven, Carrier ENUM Registry and multimedia interconnection Hub.

The flagship XConnect Global Alliance service is the largest active Peering Federation. The Global Alliance is a suite of policy driven, neutral and trusted Carrier-ENUM registry and interconnection services that allows service providers to realize the benefits of IP communications by enabling secure and seamless routing between IP networks. The VoIP Traffic Manager (VTM) is an outsourced, hosted softswitch solution that enables carriers and wholesalers to route and manage their VoIP traffic without the cost, complexity and resource of setting up their own technology infrastructure.

“There are a number of service providers who are in the process of launching or ramping up their voice services and our VTM can empower these players to provide local and international switching at minimal outlay. In the end, the customer will benefit from increased competition, more choice, lower costs and better voice quality,” says Geerdts.
