Johannesburg, South Africa – 21 January 2011 - Multisource, South Africa’s leading wireless technology provider, will be joining strategic partner STM on their stand at the annual GSMA World Mobile Congress to showcase the latest technologies and trends in rural base stations.

STM's SuperPicoTM system employs advanced digital radio technology developed in Norway combined with proven software-defined radio functionality, resulting in a low cost rural GSM solution with advanced picocell technology. Optimised for rural cellular applications, as well as marine and rapid deployments, these small, rugged all-outdoor systems consume less than 35W, yet provide coverage up to 15 km. This results in the lowest power consumption in the industry, per unit of RF output power.
T
hese solutions are able to provide mobile services to approximately one billion people who are underserviced by mainstream networks. The partnership with STM forms part of a market expansion plan that also saw Multisource join forces with Azotel and Samsung throughout the course of 2010.

In the fourth quarter of 2010, Samsung appointed Multisource as a Regional Partner of its Mobile WiMAX and Long Term Evolution (LTE) products. As a result of the deal, Multisource secured an estimated $250 million worth of vendor financing investment into telecommunications across the African continent. This financing is made available through Multisource’s primary shareholder, Sasfin Bank, who has backed the deal.

The GSMA represents the interests of the worldwide mobile communications industry. It spans 219 countries and unites nearly 800 of the world's mobile operators, as well as more than 200 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, including handset makers, software companies, equipment providers, Internet companies, and media and entertainment organisations. The World Mobile Congress will take place in Barcelona, Spain, from 13 to 17 February.
