TechNiche 2011 tackles WiMAX and LTE

Johannesburg, South Africa – 12 April 2011 - Service operators across the region are preparing to launch next-generation mobile broadband to meet the growing need of mobile Internet users, making Mobile WiMAX and Long Term Evolution (LTE) products key to the success of these providers. Both technologies will be showcased at Multisource's annual conference and open day, TechNiche 2011, to be held on Thursday, 12 May at The Forum in Bryanston, Johannesburg.

Brian Burns, Telecommunications Business Development Director for Samsung Networks, will present a keynote session on the benefits of WiMAX and LTE, as well as hosting three 90-minute masterclasses detailing case studies, trends, and other information critical to the success of these tools across the continent.

In November 2010, Multisource secured an estimated $300 million worth of vendor financing investment into telecommunications across the African continent through its deal with Samsung to distribute its WiMAX and LTE offering in the region.

In 2004, WiMAX emerged as a strong contender to split the data off the GSM networks. At the time, the downside was the infrastructural requirements and running costs associated with maintaining of two parallel networks. LTE resolves these challenges, as it brings voice and data into a singular environment, making it a viable solution to providers seeking to split their data from other services.

The services from Multisource will cater for numerous Africa countries, including South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, DRC, Rwanda, Malawi, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
